The European Grassroots Antiracist Movement (EGAM) in cooperation with The Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU Europe), Say stop to Racism and Nationalism (DurDe!) and Human Rights Association (IHD) organised once again this year the visit of an International delegation to Commemorate the 103rd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Istanbul, in addition to supporting pro democracy leaders in Turkey. The delegation, composed of 15 participants representing leaders of anti racist organization, members of the Armenian diaspora, members of youth political parties in addition to Mireille Clapot, French Parliament member, aimed to bring international solidarity.
Furthermore, in light to the recent political events and as the situation in Turkey continues to decline, this year a particular urgency was identified to lead a strong delegation to commemorate the 103rd Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and offer solidarity to our counterparts in Turkey. To do so, the delegation met with those who face daily persecution and state-led repression, such as lawyers, journalists, academic and members of the Kurdish community.
The visit of the international delegation falls within the frame of an EGAM – led initiative which has invested in the fight for the recognition of the Armenian genocide in Turkey and elsewhere and for the promotion of democracy in Turkey for consecutive years since 2013. You can find more information about previous delegation visits and actions carried out in Turkey though our website www.egam.eu , our social medias and the Report of 2016 about the human rights violations in South East Turkey, where EGAM also led a delegation.
